WHAT IS FAT GRAFTING?
As we grow older our skin gets more and more affected by the sun, gravity and use of mimic facial muscles (chewing, smiling, crying, getting angry etc.). Our skin tissue looses its volume (process known as fat atrophy), as well as the ability to maintain that youthful look. The expression marks start to appear on our faces.
Fat grafting has wide applications in cosmetic procedures, because it helps you restore that youthful appearance. It involves taking fat from one part of the body, purifying it and carefully re-injecting it into the desired areas of the body. This way it provides structural support to soft tissues and restores fullness to the face.
This highly effective treatment can fill expression folds, sunken cheeks, scars and lips, but not deep wrinkles. Fat grafting can be successfully combined with facelift, Botox or laser treatments.
The procedure itself is usually performed under local anesthesia. It uses the fat from an area where you have some to spare. The fat gets extracted with specially designed needles, then sterilized, purified and re-injected into the targeted areas in a process called microlipoinjection. Fat grafting often includes minor swelling, which is commonly seen after the fat is injected and which usually subsides after 2-3 weeks.
In order to maximize the results, fat grafting might require several treatments.
Fat Grafting is gaining huge popularity and it is considered to be the future of augmentation surgery procedures.
It is a highly natural procedure where a patient’s own excess body fat is used to increase volume of desired areas and emphasize body contours, such as abs, biceps, chest, buttocks, hips etc. The advantage is not just using the natural “ingredients”, but also the fact that this procedure results in a natural look with no scars and short recovery rate.
Fat Grafting is used for:
- Breast Augmentation
- Buttock Augmentation
- Hip Enlargement
- Hand rejuvenation
- Body Contouring and Shaping
- Face Rejuvenation
Fat Grafting excludes the famous concern about implants as foreign objects, as well as the fear what will happen if they rupture or the body rejects them.
It is fair to say that Fat Grafting has limitations, like percentage of acceptability, because body fat of the patient can naturally be absorbed over time. In addition to that, a surgeon can combine both fat and implants in a procedure called “Composite Augmentation”, applicable only for both breasts and buttocks.
