What is hyperhidrosis?
Everyone sweats, it’s the body’s way of keeping cool. But for some people, sweating goes far beyond what’s normal. If you find yourself soaking through clothes, avoiding handshakes, or feeling embarrassed because of constant underarm stains, you may be dealing with a condition called hyperhidrosis, excessive sweating.
It doesn’t mean you’re nervous or unclean. It’s a medical condition, and fortunately, it has effective treatments.
How Botox helps
Most people think of Botox only for smoothing wrinkles, but it’s also FDA-approved for treating excessive sweating. Botox works by temporarily blocking the nerve signals that trigger your sweat glands. When these signals are interrupted, the treated area simply stops producing so much sweat.
The most common areas treated are the underarms, palms, and soles of the feet. Some patients also benefit from Botox in other small areas like the forehead.
What to expect during treatment
The procedure is quick and straightforward. A numbing cream may be applied if you’re concerned about discomfort, though most patients tolerate it well without. Tiny injections are placed just under the skin across the affected area.
The whole session usually takes less than 30 minutes. You can go back to work, the gym, or your normal routine right away.
Results aren’t instant , it takes a few days for Botox to fully block the sweat signals, but once it kicks in, you’ll notice a dramatic reduction in sweating.
How long do results last?
For most patients, the effect lasts around 6 to 9 months, sometimes longer. Once the nerves regenerate, sweating gradually returns, and the treatment can be repeated. With regular sessions, many patients find the results last even longer over time.

Is Botox for hyperhidrosis safe?
Yes. Botox has been used for decades and is considered safe when administered by a trained, qualified doctor. Side effects are minimal, usually limited to slight redness or tenderness at the injection site, which disappears quickly.
For palm treatments, some patients may notice temporary hand weakness, but this is rare. During your consultation, I’ll discuss all possible effects and make sure the treatment is right for you.
