Let’s talk about mesotherapy

Mesotherapy is one of those treatments that people hear about but aren’t always sure what it really is. Patients sometimes ask me, “Doctor, is this like Botox? Or a filler?” And the answer is no , it’s neither.

Mesotherapy is all about skin health. It’s a series of tiny injections that deliver vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and hyaluronic acid directly into the skin. Instead of sitting on the surface like a cream, these nutrients reach the deeper layers where they can actually do some good. The result? Skin that looks fresher, healthier, and more hydrated.

It was first developed decades ago in France, and over the years it has become one of the most popular ways to give tired-looking skin a boost without changing your facial features.

Why people come asking about it

I often see patients who say things like:

  • “No matter how much moisturiser I use, my skin still feels dry.”
  • “I’m sleeping well, but everyone keeps asking me if I’m tired.”
  • “I just want my skin to look alive again.”

That’s exactly the gap mesotherapy fills. It doesn’t “freeze” muscles or add new volume. Instead, it improves the quality of the skin itself. It’s a treatment for glow, for hydration, for that healthy look that makeup alone can’t fake.

How the treatment works

The treatment is very straightforward. First, we clean the skin thoroughly. If you’d like, we apply a numbing cream, though most people don’t find it painful , the injections are very small. Then, using a fine needle, I place tiny droplets of the customised solution across the skin.

It’s quick , usually around 20 minutes for the whole face. Afterwards, you might see little bumps where the injections went in, almost like mosquito bites, but they settle down within a day or so. You can go back to your normal routine straight away.

For best results, I recommend a course of treatments , usually three or four sessions spaced a few weeks apart. After that, we do maintenance every few months to keep the glow going.

The results

Mesotherapy doesn’t give you an overnight transformation. Instead, the improvements build gradually. Skin becomes smoother, fine lines soften, and the dull look fades. Patients often tell me they notice their makeup sits better, or that friends comment they look “rested” or “fresh” without knowing why.

What I love about this treatment is how natural the results look. You don’t look “done” , you just look like the healthiest version of yourself.

Recovery

There isn’t much to worry about after treatment. Some redness, mild swelling, or small bumps are normal but disappear within a day or two. I usually tell patients to avoid heavy makeup, intense exercise, or long sun exposure for 24 hours , that’s it.

Mesotherapy: FAQs

Most people do three to four sessions to start, then one or two top-ups a year.

Most patients describe it as a little scratchy rather than painful. A numbing cream makes it more comfortable.

You’ll see a nice glow after the first treatment, but the real benefits build over a few weeks and sessions.

Yes — it pairs well with lasers, skin boosters, and peels for even stronger results.

Apart from mild redness or swelling for a day or two, risks are very low when performed properly.
